Crypto Profit Calculator
Work out profit or loss on a crypto trade from your own buy and sell prices, including buy and sell fees, ROI and the break-even sell price.
Enter your buy and sell prices and quantity, then press Calculate.
What the crypto profit calculator does
This calculator works out the result of one buy and one sell of a digital asset. You enter what you paid per coin, how many coins you bought, the buy fee, the price per coin at which you sold, and the sell fee. It returns the total cost, the proceeds after fees, the profit or loss, the return on the money you put in, and the break-even sell price.
Prices are whatever you type. The tool does not fetch live market data, so the figures are only as current as the numbers you enter. Tax is not included. Depending on where you live, gains may be taxable, and that tax changes the amount you actually keep.
How to use it
- Enter the buy price per coin in your currency, taken from your exchange statement.
- Enter the quantity of coins bought. Fractional amounts such as 0.5 are accepted.
- Enter the buy fee as a percentage of the purchase value. Type 0.1 for a 0.1% fee. Leave it blank for no fee.
- Enter the sell price per coin. Zero is accepted and shows the full loss.
- Enter the sell fee as a percentage of the sale value, using the same format.
- Press Calculate. A loss appears in red and is labelled as a loss.
Worked example
You buy 0.5 coins at 42,000 each, with a 0.1% fee. The purchase costs 21,000, and the fee adds 21, so the total cost is 21,021. Later you sell all 0.5 coins at 55,000 each, with a 0.1% fee. The sale value is 27,500, the fee is 27.50, and the proceeds are 27,472.50.
The profit is 27,472.50 minus 21,021, which is 6,451.50. The ROI is 6,451.50 divided by 21,021, or about 30.7%. The break-even sell price is the price at which proceeds equal total cost: 21,021 ÷ (0.5 × 0.999), or about 42,084.08 per coin. That is a little above the 42,000 buy price because the sell fee has to be covered too.
Tips and limits
- Include every cost that applies to the trade if you want the result to match your real outcome. The calculator models only the two percentage fees in the form, so spreads, network charges and withdrawal fees are not included.
- Tax is not included. Many countries tax gains when you dispose of an asset, and some apply rules to every trade or swap. Check your local rules or ask a qualified tax professional.
- The break-even price is useful for setting a sell target that covers the fees, but the market may never reach it.
- Past prices and calculations do not predict future returns. Crypto assets can move sharply within days, and an investment can lose most or all of its value.
Crypto Profit Calculator – Frequently Asked Questions
How is profit calculated?
Profit equals sale proceeds minus total cost. Total cost is the quantity times the buy price, plus the buy fee. Sale proceeds are the quantity times the sell price, minus the sell fee.
What is the break-even sell price?
It is the price per coin at which the proceeds exactly cover the total cost, after the sell fee. It equals total cost ÷ (quantity × (1 − sell fee as a decimal)).
Does the calculator fetch current market prices?
No. You type in the buy price and the sell price yourself. The calculator does not connect to any market data source, so the result is only as current as the numbers you enter.
Are taxes included?
No. Capital gains tax, income tax and any other transaction taxes are not subtracted. The result is a pre-tax figure, and the tax you owe depends on your own location and circumstances.
How are the fees applied?
Each fee is a percentage of its own trade value. The buy fee is a percentage of the purchase cost, and the sell fee is a percentage of the sale value before the fee is deducted.
