What this currency converter does

The converter changes an amount from one currency into another using a fixed table of 24 reference rates built into this page. It suits budgeting, price comparisons and rough invoice estimates. It is not a live exchange service: the table is not updated from a bank or market feed, and the page does not show when the rates were last set. Treat every figure as an approximation.

How to convert, step by step

1. Type the amount into the Amount box. It starts at 1.
2. Choose the currency you are converting from in the From list.
3. Choose the target currency in the To list.
4. Read the large figure. It recalculates as soon as you change any field, so there is no separate Convert button.
5. Press the ⇄ button to swap the From and To currencies.

The Quick Reference panel shows the value of one unit of your From currency in USD, EUR, GBP, INR, PKR, JPY, CAD and AUD, leaving out the one you selected. It is useful when you need several conversions at once.

Worked example

Suppose you want to know what 250 euros is in yen. Set Amount to 250, From to EUR and To to JPY. The table gives one euro as 162.5000 yen, which is 149.5 divided by 0.92, so the converter shows 40625.0000 JPY. A bank or card provider will apply its own rate and fees, so the amount you are charged will differ.

Tips and limits

• Use the converter for planning, not for settling a payment. Bank, card and exchange-desk rates include margins and fees that this table does not.
• The rates are fixed reference values, and some may be out of date. Check a central bank or live forex source before you commit money.
• Every conversion passes through US dollars, which is the base of the table.
• You cannot add currencies. The list is fixed to the 24 shown in the dropdowns.
• The main figure shows four decimal places, more precision than most payments use. Round to the usual minor unit of the currency before you invoice.
