What this meta tag generator produces
Meta tags are HTML elements placed in the head of a web page. They give search engines and social platforms a summary of the page. This tool fills in a set of tags from the form fields and shows the HTML in the output box, ready to copy. It does not look at your live page, so check the finished result on the site itself.
What each tag does
- title sets the name shown in browser tabs and, often, in search results.
- description is the summary that search engines may show under the title.
- keywords is ignored by Google for ranking. It is included only because you asked for it.
- author names the writer of the page.
- robots tells crawlers whether to index the page and whether to follow its links.
- canonical link gives the preferred address of the page, which helps when the same content is reachable at several URLs.
- og: tags (type, title, description, url and image) control link previews on Facebook, LinkedIn and similar sites.
- twitter: tags control the card shown on X (Twitter). The card type is either Summary or Summary Large Image.
Step by step
- Enter the Page Title. The counter turns red above 60 characters.
- Enter the Meta Description. The counter turns red above 160 characters.
- Fill in the optional fields: keywords, author, canonical URL and OG image URL.
- Choose the Twitter card type and the robots setting.
- Click Copy All and paste the block inside the head section of your page.
Worked example
For a pricing page, use the title Simple Pricing for Small Teams | Example Studio, which is 47 characters. Write a description of about 150 characters that explains what the plan includes. Enter the full address of the pricing page as the canonical URL, and an absolute https address for the OG image. The output then contains the title, the description, the Open Graph lines and the Twitter lines in one block.
Length guidance and limits
- Aim for a title of roughly 50 to 60 characters and a description of roughly 150 to 160 characters.
- Search engines cut snippets by pixel width, so a description can be shortened even within those limits.
- Search engines sometimes rewrite titles and descriptions, and they may ignore the description entirely.
- Image URLs should be full addresses starting with https. Relative paths often fail on social platforms.
- Special characters such as quotation marks and ampersands are escaped in the output, so the generated HTML stays valid.
Meta Tag Generator – Frequently Asked Questions
What are meta tags?
Meta tags are HTML elements placed in the head section of a page. They describe the page to search engines and social media platforms, and they do not appear on the page itself.
Which meta tags matter most for SEO?
The title tag, the meta description and the canonical URL matter most for search. Open Graph and Twitter Card tags control how the page looks when it is shared on social media.
How long should a title and description be?
Aim for a title of roughly 50 to 60 characters and a description of roughly 150 to 160 characters. Search engines cut snippets by pixel width rather than a fixed character count, so these are guidelines, and longer text is often truncated.
Do keywords meta tags still matter?
Google has said it does not use the keywords meta tag for ranking. Including it does no harm, but it will not improve your search position on its own.
Does this tool check my page?
No. The tool only builds the HTML from the fields you fill in. It does not fetch your site, so test the finished page with a link preview or a search console tool.
