What this URL shortener does
This tool turns a long web address into a short link on this site, in the form /s/<code>. When someone opens the short link, they are redirected to the original page. The tool also keeps a click count for each link, so you can see how often it has been opened.
Short links are useful when a long address is hard to type, wraps badly in a message or needs to fit in a limited space such as a caption or a printed flyer. The short link goes to exactly the same place as the original.
How to shorten a link step by step
- Copy the full address you want to share, including the https:// at the start.
- Paste it into the Long URL box and press Shorten link.
- Press Copy to put the short link on your clipboard, or press Open to test it in a new tab.
- Share the short link wherever you need it.
- To see the number of clicks later, open the Check clicks section and paste the short link or its code.
A concrete example
Suppose you want to share an article at https://www.example.com/blog/2026/guide-to-home-energy-savings?utm_source=newsletter&ref=spring. That address is long and easy to mistype. After you shorten it, you might get a link such as /s/aB3xYz. Anyone who opens it lands on the same article. A week later, you paste aB3xYz into Check clicks and see the number of visits along with the original address, so you can confirm the link is still pointing where you expect.
Honest limits
- This tool does not offer custom aliases, password protection, or expiry dates.
- Only http:// and https:// addresses up to 2,000 characters are accepted.
- The click count shows opens that went through the short link. It does not show who opened it or where they came from.
- Anyone with a short code can look up its destination and click count, so keep private addresses out of this tool.
- A short link hides the destination. Check where a link goes before you share it, and never shorten a link you do not trust.
If you need link analytics, branded domains or access control, use a service built for that purpose. This page is meant for quick, simple sharing.
URL Shortener – Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an account to shorten a link?
No. Paste a long http:// or https:// address, press Shorten, and the short link appears straight away. There is no sign-up step on this page.
How do I check how many times my short link was opened?
Paste the short code or the full short link into the "Check clicks" section. The page shows the click count and the original URL. Each time the short link is opened and redirects, the click count goes up by one.
Can I choose my own custom alias, like /s/my-brand?
No. Codes are generated randomly, six characters long, using letters and numbers. Custom aliases are not available in this tool.
Which web addresses can I shorten?
Only addresses that start with http:// or https:// and are no longer than 2,000 characters. Addresses such as ftp:// or mailto: are rejected.
Can anyone see the click count and destination for my link?
Anyone who has the short code can look up its original URL and click count with the Check clicks section. Do not shorten private links, such as documents with personal access tokens, that you would not want others to see.
